Last week, I purchased
breakfast for my company at
McDonald’s. I asked if there was
a volume discount. The
manager gave me four Egg
McMuffins free (equaling about
10% off). She also threw in a
cup of coffee to go. There’s
money to be found—we just
have to look. Over the next
month or two, I want you to be
on the look out, and put
together your own "hidden
treasure" list.

This BYM issue wraps up our
finance series. We’ll discover
where to find hidden treasure,
how to get the best buys, and
introduce a few good resources.

Have you ever found some
money on the street? What did it
feel like? Didn’t it feel good?
Well, there’s money to be found
all around you right now. Let’s
take a look at how to find it!
These are just a few examples
from my own life:

Carpooling: savings in gas &
   tolls = $16/week.
Combining errands around
   town = $4/week (gas & time).
Outlet shopping = 35%
   savings = $300/annual.
Cutting back on sodas, coffee,
   and snacks = $4/week.
Reduce eating out (1 less time
   a month) = $25/month.

This short list totals up to $1,848
per year! Wow! Applying the
power of compounding to this
$1,848, and consistently
investing this same amount
every year and earning 10% on
it, at the end of 40 years that
amounts to $973,908. Even at
6%, it totals $306,689. Now,
that's not bad for a little treasure
hunting. Check out
BYM Issue
#15 for a little more info on the
power of compounding.
